The Agricultural Policy of the Eu and Hungarian Agriculture in Preparation for Eu Accession

Theoretical considerations in connection with state intervention first appeared in American economics literature. These diffused to Europe, where they became the basis for the practice of the protectionist agricultural policy of the EEC after World War II. It is a wellknown fact that this agricultural policy was successful in practice for two decades, but with time it created more and more problems. At the beginning of the 1990s radical reforms could not be postponed any longer. Problems appeared at two levels at the same time: within the EU and at international level in the international economic system. In the meantime the agriculture of the United States (and some other countries with similar agriculture) has also changed compared to the earlier system. We have to evaluate the agricultural issues of the EU enlargement and the perspectives for Hungarian agriculture in this difficult situation.
